About Ryze

Adrian Scott set up Ryze to bring his friends together!

It went into beta in October of 2001, and has been growing rapidly since then.

A lot of the initial members of Ryze attended mixers held in Adrian's loft called the Web of Finance, which had started in 1996. Adrian wanted to create a way for people to connect with each other outside of the mixers, and also to stay in contact as they moved around.

On Ryze, each member has a profile page where they list a bit of info on themselves, such as their interests and previous companies, and also put in links to their friends. Members can contact other members by sending a private message (e-mail addresses are not publicly-listed on a member's page), or by leaving a note in a guestbook area on each page.

Members can also see lists of events that various groups are organizing, and make plans to meet people through real-life encounters.

Why is it called Ryze? Because it's about people helping each other 'rise up'! It's pronounced the same as 'rise'.

Ryze is an extremely simple and intuitive version of the old networking sites (PlanetAll, SixDegrees, etc.) with a dash of Evite, the Well, and HotorNot. I call Ryze the "Craig's List of Networking" -- and I think that's appropriate -- even Craig Newmark is an active member. -- Auren Hoffman

Recognition

UltradevExtensions.com's Site of the Month, April 2002

Hello it’s that time again, I am happy to announce Adrian Scott’s [Ryze] as our Site of the month. Ryze ("rise") is a super cool networking site that started here in San Francisco, but has now grown global. If you build community sites that rely on repeat traffic, but don’t have money to market, Ryze is a perfect example of organic viral marketing. It has that elusive “stickyness” I encourage you to join the free site and analyze what you like about it. -- Wayne Lambright
